BACP travelling fellowship
Established in 1994, using funds donated by the British Association
of Community Physicians on its dissolution, a fellowship is normally
awarded biennially to assist members of the Faculty in training to undertake
educational travel, normally outside the United Kingdom.
Purpose
To assist Members of the Faculty in training to undertake educational
travel, normally outside the United Kingdom.
Value
- Up to a maximum of 1,500, at the discretion of the Adjudication Committee, subject to continuing availability of funds.
- The maximum value to be reviewed every three years on the recommendation of the Finance Sub-Committee of the Executive Committee.
Frequency
Every other year, beginning in 1994, funds permitting.
Eligibility
All specialist registrar members of the Faculty and full members of the Faculty in training-grade posts at the time of application are eligible. Applicants and travelling fellows must remain in good standing with the Faculty, both at the time of application, and for the tenure of the award.
Criteria
Applications shall comprise:
- A full curriculum vitae of the applicant.
- A travel plan specifying the detailed educational aims of the travel, the place(s) to be visited with reasons for the choice, and an outline of the visit programme with expected benefits.
Assessment
To be undertaken by an Adjudication Committee comprising:
- A Head of Academic Department.
- A consultant in public health medicine nominated in the first instance by members of the Executive Committee of the former British Association of Community Physicians, and thereafter by the Faculty Advisers Committee. The consultant to serve for a term of three years renewable.
- A representative of the Specialist Registrar Members Committee.
In the absence of applications of sufficient merit the Adjudication
Committee may decide that no award be made.
Presentation
The decision of the Adjudication Committee will be reported to the Education Committee and the Board and announced at the Faculty's Annual General Meeting. The winner will receive a letter and cheque by post.
Application
The closing date for entries is 1st March at two-yearly intervals, on all even-numbered years (2000, 2002 and so on).
