June and Sidney Crown award
Purpose
On demitting office of President in 1998, Dr June Crown and her husband,
Dr Sidney Crown, generously endowed an annual award starting in 1999
to be known as the 'June and Sidney Crown Award'. Its purpose is to
assist young Members of the Faculty to gain experience or further training
outside the United Kingdom.
Funding
The endowment for the award shall be held in a fund to be known as the June and Sidney Crown Award Fund from which either capital
or income may be used to provide for the award, on an annual basis as
funds permit.
The current minimum value is £150, with a possibility of this being increased dependant upon the applicant's submission.
Eligibility
All members of the Faculty in good standing under the age of 35 at the
time of application. Preference will be given to those working within
the National Health Service.
Criteria
Applications must comprise:
- A full curriculum vitae of the applicant.
- A travel plan specifying further experience or training to be gained, the place(s) to be visited and an outline of the expected benefits.
- The award shall be made for the proposal judged to be the most worthwhile in terms of experience or training in public health. Applications to cover travel costs to attend international conferences and scientific meetings will not be entertained.
- In the absence of applications of sufficient merit, the adjudication committee may decide that no award be made.
Adjudication
Adjudication is to be undertaken by a committee comprising:
Registrar
International Faculty Adviser
Chair of Specialist Registrar Members Committee (unless an applicant
for the award).
Presentation
The award of a certificate and cheque will be made at the Faculty's
Annual General Meeting. The winner will be invited to attend the Annual
Dinner as the President's guest.
Obligations
The award holder shall submit to the Faculty newsletter, for publication
at the editor's discretion, a brief account of the insights gained from
the experience of training overseas undertaken with the aid of the award.
