Salt

Position Statement on Salt [262KB pdf]
Position Statement
2006
Produced by: The Faculty of Public Health Cardiovascular Health Working Group and Heart of Mersey

The health implications of excessive salt intake are well documented. Evidence shows a strong causal link between high salt intakes and hypertension (high blood pressure). There is widespread recognition that daily salt intake levels in the population need to be reduced. However, continued pressure is needed to ensure industry (and government) meet the target of an average 6g/day for those aged 11 and over by 2010.
The Faculty's Position Statement on Salt outlines what organisations and individual health professionals should advocate and lobby for around this issue, and how to do it.
